Swarms of drones will become Norway's new weapon

Swarms of drones will become Norway's new weapon

NRK: Norwegian soldiers will, in a few years, defend the country with swarms of drones. Dozens of drones can be controlled by a single soldier.

Six Robotics and the Norwegian Defence Research Establishment (FFI) have signed a new strategic licensing agreement, deepening an already long-standing collaboration around swarm autonomy and distributed decision-making.

The agreement formalizes an expanded scope for technology transfer, giving Six Robotics broader access to simulation environments, mission datasets, and core autonomy modules developed in joint research with FFI. In return, Six will provide operational integration layers and productization of Valkyrie — its software-defined swarm orchestration platform — for use in future joint test programs and NATO-aligned missions.

  • Secure IP sharing between FFI and Six Robotics

  • Continued joint work on swarm coordination resilience

  • Dual-use adaptation of Valkyrie’s autonomy stack for both national defense and allied deployments

  • Use of Six’s operator-in-the-loop interfaces in future FFI field exercises
